The City of Edgar is a supporter of Fair Housing and supports the Title VIII of the Civil Rights Act of 1968 which prohibits discrimination in the sale, rental, and financing of dwellings based on race, color, religion, sex, national origin, disability, or familial status. Title VII also sets forth the enforcement mechanisms enabling U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development attorneys to bring action before administrative law judges on behalf of victims of housing discrimination; and allowing the Department of Justices to bring suit on behalf of victims in Federal district courts. Furthermore, the City supports the elimination of unlawful discriminatory practices within its jurisdictional boundaries.
